Drainage ditch

(Enlarge image) A soil and water conservation district drainage project on wet farm land in the 1960s. This recently excavated open drain trench quickly filled with water. In the mid-1800s, early settlers in the Willamette Valley began the backbreaking work of draining farmland on the valley floor without the benefit of heavy machinery. (OAG013)
