State Historical Records Advisory Board
Training Opportunities - Basics of Records Management Webinars (2012 Sessions)
Basics of Records Management Workshop offered in Online Webinar format
The State Historical Records Advisory Board (SHRAB) , headed by the Oregon Secretary of State, Archives Division, received a federal NHPRC (National Publications and Records Commission) to offer the 'Basics of Records Management' course in an online format. This is the same content we offered in late- 2011 in two webinars.
Dates:
Either March 21, 2012 (Full) OR April 4, 2012
Time: 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM*
*You may log in as early as 8:30 AM, but the webinar will start at 9:00 AM. Also, you may receive reminder emails from iLinc about the webinar. These emails will state that the session starts at 8:30 AM. This is incorrect. The 8:30 to 9:00 AM time slot is used by the instructor to prepare and setup the webinar.
Presenter:
Dan Cantrall, CRM (State Historical Records Advisory Board Deputy Coordinator)
How to Register:
Email attendance request to Dan Cantrall at daniel.e.cantrall@state.or.us . Make sure you specify which session you will be attending. Attendance is limited to 20 persons per session.
You will receive a reply message that includes a link to access the webinar in iLinc (the webinar tool we will be using) in one to two days. You will also receive occassional reminders to attend the session. Included in these messages is a link to test your computer system with the iLinc software to make sure you can connect properly to the webinar.
Again, although the emails from iLinc state that the session starts at 8:30 AM, this is incorrect. You may log in anytime from 8:30 to 9:00 AM, but the session officially starts at 9:00 AM.
What You Need to Participate:
You will need a telephone (toll-free call) and a computer that will run the iLinc software. In our experience, most computers running Windows XP, Windows 7, or Mac OS10 will have no problems connecting.
Content:
This workshop is a general overview of best practices in records management. The focus will be on covering topics of interest to public government agencies. However, private organizations and individuals may also attend and may find the material useful because there is a strong intersection of records management procedure and practice between public and private entities.
Topics:
Records Mangement Background
Legal Framework in General - Compliance and Regulations
Oregon Specific Records Management Requirements
Records Storage Issues
Electronic Records - Special Considerations
Identifying Essential Records for Disaster Recovery
Promoting your Records Management Program
