Yamaka to Lead National Administrative Rules Group
Julie Yamaka, managing editor of the popular Oregon Blue Book for the Oregon State Archives, has been elected president of the Administrative Codes and Registers section of the National Association of Secretaries of State.
Yamaka, publications manager for the Archives Division, was elected to lead the organization July 27 during the annual meeting of the National Association of Secretaries of State in Grand Rapids, MI. She will serve as president until July 2010.
“I’m very excited at the opportunity to represent my colleagues from across the country,” Yamaka said. “The public usually doesn’t see our work until it affects them and suddenly, they might have to become an expert in this rule or that rule. That’s where we come in. We make sure all that is available in hard copies and on our web site.”
For the last 11 years, Yamaka, of Keizer, has served as manager of the Publications Unit of the Archives Division of the Oregon Secretary of State. The unit publishes the Oregon Administrative Rules, which implement laws passed by the Oregon Legislature. And every two years, the Publications Unit publishes the Oregon Blue Book. She has worked for the Secretary of State since 1990, serving in several different capacities.
Yamaka has been active in the organization since 1998, serving as a regional representative, secretary-treasurer and, since 2006, vice president. She succeeds Jane Chaffin, registrar of regulations for Virginia. Yamaka will direct the national organization's activities during the next two years, including its biennial survey of state rulemaking and its annual conference.
